I have figured most things out over the years, but still do not have G'MIC because I cannot get it to install, and there is too much contradictory info out there on what to do to install it. And I wish they would get all the pieces together and make a single install rather that having to search out the extras and then trying to get them to install where they need to go. I have often wished there was a good, informative gimp discussion forum that would cull out all the junk and immature, waste of space, jibber jabber posted by that bunch, and be a good, centralized, and dependable place for making gimp better, and using it more efficiently. Only comment I can offer on the cartoony and toy image it gets portrayed as is that years ago when a lot of kids found out it was free, they did a lot of stuff that would fit those categories, as well as clogging up most every gimp discussion forum that came along. I agree, been using it for over ten years and have done a LOT of photo editing with it. It just pains me how professional gimp is versus how it is actually advertised. professional product? I get that it's open-source and doesn't have a big marketing team, but I'm SURE it could find photographers who use GIMP for photomanipulation that would love to have their work featured in marketing campaigns. Why isn't GIMP being advertised as a more. However, other software specially made for sketching kind of outperforms the "sketching" aspects. it seems to be heavily advertised as an "art" software, for like sketching. An example, whereas Photoshop has a serious splash image, GIMP has a weird cartoony logo and cartoony examples. However, what I cannot imagine is why the image of gimp is being portrayed as almost a "toy" product.

I have defended gimp for YEARS as "the free lightweight equivalent of photoshop." The only difference left is really in tablet pen dynamics. I've used it professionally for years, and it is the only serious rival to Photoshop in my opinion.
